iPhone 4S released in China for FREE with contract

This will get overshadowed by the new iPad unveiled a couple days before, but this is big news. China Telecom has 130 million customers. And, get this, one model of the 4S will be given away for free with a contract.

130 million is 10% of the current population in China. I’m not familiar with the contract, but it’s a bit mindless to decide whether to get the new iPhone 4S or not. With OS X Mountain Lion getting a boost in China’s localization, I think Apple is deeply serious with the China market.

This may lead to China Telecom getting a lot of new customers switching from other providers, and definitely a great opportunity for app developers with tens (if not hundreds) of millions of new iPhone owners.
