Gift this App

This is my second blog post on Where’s My Water - an iOS game which I’m currently in love playing with. You can read my first post here as I discussed how I fell in love with the game. 

In this post, I’d like to highlight how the developer of Where’s My Water intelligently puts a way to boost the app sales by including a Gift this App link within the app. As a registered iOS developer who haven’t submitted any app to the App Store (yet), I wasn’t familiar with the “how-to” of getting this link until a few days ago when I started playing around EA Mobile’s Daily Deals site. 

I was trying to gift an app (that was free during that period) through the Gift this App link on their website, as a way to notify my friends who might have missed this deal otherwise. These are what I found out. We can’t gift away apps that are free at the time we’re trying to gift them away. And, we can easily hack into the URL and change it to any app’s ID to redirect any users to the Gift this App wizard page on the iTunes Store.

And that’s what I think the developer of Where’s My Water did with the Gift this App link within the app. I’m not sure how effective this approach is, but it’s worth trying.
